The two schools that became Salem Hills:
- Salem Hills School (#3): located just west of the Old German Road (present-day Babcock) on Salem Church Road (present-day Upper 55th Street), this one-room schoolhouse was deeded to the county in 1860. It was turned into a single-family home after the opening of the new Salem Hills Elementary in 1953.
- Glassing School (#8): located along Old German Road southeast of its intersection with present-day 70th Street this one-room schoolhouse was located on land donated either by Rev. William Weir in 1864 or, later, by Adam Glassing. It graduated its last eighth-grade class in 1940 and was fully annexed into SD #3 by 1950. The school was used as storage by Glassing Florist until its eventual demolition.
Salem Hills School was completed in 1953, with an additional three classrooms, a cafeteria-gymnasium, and offices added in 1965. The school added 12 classrooms with a courtyard in 1987, and in 2003 opened the Atheneum program for gifted and talented students in Inver Grove Heights.
